An estimated 35 trees have come crashing down in different parts of the State, with 10 of them being considered major incidents on Saturday itself.
Heavy rains have lashed the state in the last three days and dozens of trees have come crashing down, as a result, causing damage to houses, temples, buildings and vehicles. Many trees fell on roads and blocked traffic, while the power supply was also disrupted when some trees fell on electricity wires and poles.
Goa has been on Orange alert by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), which indicated heavy rainfall in the State.
Hotlines of the fire and emergency services were busy for the last three days and firefighters attended to calls round the clock.
At least incidents of 35 trees falling have been reported by the Fire and Emergency Service department in the last three days, with 10 of them being considered major incidents on Saturday itself.
A mango tree uprooted near the Verna Industrial Estate and fell on a stationary bus, while in another incident, a tree fell on a stationary Omni Van near the Farmagudi bypass, causing extensive damage to the vehicles.
A tree fell in Sanguem taluka disrupting traffic, while a tree fell on a house at Curti-Ponda.
Elsewhere, a tree fell on the road near the Nana Nani Park in Porvorim, a tree fell on the Sateri Kelbai Temple hall at Harvalem and a tree fell on a house near the Fatorda stadium.
In Canacona, a tree fell on the road while another tree fell on electricity wires at Dessaiwado in Calangute and one fell on the house at Mahadev Temple in Cotombi-Quepem.
On Friday, a tree fell on a road near Maruti Temple at Mala-Panaji, another fell on a house near a restaurant in Vasco and one at Mangor hill.
Trees also collapsed on the road near Portawado-Siolim, near Walke shop in Duler-Mapusa, on a house in Dona Paula and electrical wires and a road at Dabal-Dharbandora.
