Two-term Councillor Leo Rodrigues on Friday filed his nomination to the post of chairperson at the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC Chairperson).
Rodrigues filed his nomination before the MMC Chief Officer Jayant Tari in the presence of other BJP Councillors and is likely to be elected unopposed as the Chairperson of MMC during the elections stated on June 27.
The post has been vacant after the previous MMC Chairperson Damodar Kaskar tendered his resignation.
Speaking to reporters, Leo Rodrigues said elections will be held on June 27 and the last date for filing nominations is on June 26.
"The MMC is a BJP-led council and I have got maximum support from all councillors and there are chances that I could be elected unopposed. BJP Minister Mauvin Godinho, Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar and former minister Milind Naik have extended their support to me.”
“The BJP will continue to lead the council and we will continue to take up development works for the people," said Rodrigues.
Vasco BJP Mandal President and Councillor Deepak Naik said Rodrigues was a fit candidate to lead the MMC as chairperson.
"He has been elected on two consecutive terms in two different wards belonging to two different constituencies. He has also good knowledge of municipal works and has also been the vice-chairperson of GSUDA. We are sure that Rodrigues who has good capacity to take up the post as MMC Chairperson will be unanimously elected unopposed on June 27 to continue the good works of the MMC," said Naik.
