The BJP Yuva Morcha (BJYM) on Saturday challenged the Congress to justify the Emergency imposed by former Congress PM late Indira Gandhi on June 25, 1975, and to explain to the people if it had been in the interest of the country.
Addressing a rally in Vasco, BJP State Executive Member Jayant Jadhav said the Emergency was the darkest day in the history of democracy and politics in the country.
“On this day in 1975, late Indira Gandhi imposed an Emergency curbing the fundamental rights of citizens for around 21 months. Various leaders and freedom fighters who were in the opposition were arrested and the press was suppressed and not allowed to write anything against the Government.”
"The election victory of Indira Gandhi in Rai Bareli was set aside by the Allahabad Court and fearing that Congress would lose control of the power, she imposed an Emergency and put the country in its worst situation. There were protests across the nation against Indira Gandhi," said Jadhav.
Vasco MLA Krishna Salkar said the Congress party, despite being diminished across the country, had been instigating people against schemes and policies of the BJP Government.
“We have seen how these leaders object to anything and everything and are misguiding people to stay alive in politics while also damaging national assets during protests," said Salkar.
"Even the Congress leaders in Vasco who have never done anything for the city or contributed to the society have been taking a lot of news conferences. These leaders arrive a day before inauguration or launching of projects and give huge speeches and talks and I want these leaders to show to the people of Vasco what has been their contribution to the development of the city or the society.”
“The Congress must first clarify its stand on the Emergency and we will continue to bring out the various injustices done to Indians by the Congress party in all these years," said Salkar.

Astanga yoga, pranayam, asanas, dhyan dharana and meditation are the only ways that can lead to happiness and fulfilment. Astanga yoga helps in unifying the various organs in the human body and it further creates a bond between the person and the mind, society and the world. Yoga and meditation allow an individual to be one with the environment,” stated Shripad Naik, Union Minister of State…
