Heavy rains lash Salcete; trees uproot, rider escapes

Heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Margao and surrounding areas of Salcete on late Saturday.

The showers brought down the soaring temperature, giving relief from the sweltering heat. The showers that started at around 9.45 pm continued for over half an hour.

Strong winds uprooted a couple of trees along Salcete coastal belt. A scooter rider escaped with minor injuries when his two-wheeler came under a tree near Voltar-Benaulim.

The Margao fire brigade has informed that an uprooted coconut tree came crashing down on an electric pole at Varca.
