Finishing second in Nuvem constituency by relegating the main stream parties and the Independent candidate way behind the battle, the Revolutionary Goans Party on Saturday took out a thanksgiving rally in the constituency to thank the people for rallying behind the nascent party and to gear up for the ensuing panchayat polls.
Participating in the rally along with party leaders, including Nuvem constituency candidate Arvind D’Costa, RGP’s newly-elected MLA Viresh Borkar took the platform to make a plea to the Revolutionary Goans workers to gear up for the ensuing panchayat polls. “The panchayat should be ruled by the RGP. All the controversial projects come first before the panchayats. We have to take the panchayat polls seriously so that we rule the village panchayats and mete out justice to the people,” he said, adding ‘RGP will have to connect with the people to take out movement forward so that we face bigger challenges and elections in the future, including the Zilla Panchayat and Lok Sabha polls’.
Saying that a big responsibility lies on his shoulders not only to take up the issue of San Andre constituency, but issues affecting entire Goa, Borkar said, “We have to ensure that our voice is heard both inside and outside the Assembly.”
Cautioning the party workers to beware of people out to play politics and divide the RG movement, Borkar said different politics is being played when one moves from taluka to taluka. “We have one set of politics being played against the RGP in Salcete and another in Ponda or in North Goa. We have to remain united and win the confidence of the people,” he added.
Saying that many a political party is out to come out of the shock after having realised the impressive performance of the RGP in the just concluded elections, the San Andre MLA asserted that the future government in Goa will be formed by the Revolutionary Goans party. “We have not polled the massive votes with money or muscle power, but with the love and support of the people of Goa. We will continue our journey with dedication and commitment. We have shown that the RGP can have our MLAs in the Assembly and form the government. To achieve this, we have to only work and win the confidence of the people,” he appealed to the RGP workers.
Party leader Teotonio D’Costa cautioned the party workers to be prepared for another electoral battle, saying the delay in the formation of the government gives clear indication of instability which may result in mid-term polls during the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
