MARGAO
The ruling BJP on Saturday claimed that senior Congress leader and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat is in touch with party central leaders in a bid to join the government.
Party spokesperson, Urfan Mulla, however, said that the BJP is not interested in opening the doors to Kamat for the reason that the people of Goa have given a mandate to Kamat and the Congress to play the role of the Opposition.
Mulla also demanded that the Congress should elect its Legislature party leader instead of demanding that the BJP elect its leader to head the next government.
Flanked by BJP Mandal president Rupesh Mahatme and general secretary Ketan Kurtarkar, the BJP spokesperson said that the BJP will form the government in Goa along with the four other states where the party has returned back to power.
Referring to Kamat’s statement that the Congress is keeping options open to form the government, Urfan said the former Chief Minister is day-dreaming of forming a government. “Kamat is using his contacts with the BJP central leaders to join the BJP and enjoy power as a Minister in the BJP government,” Urfan claimed.
When scribes sought to know whether the BJP would welcome Kamat into the party, Urfan shot back saying, “Kamat should know the people of Goa have conveyed a message loud and to Kamat and the Congress to play the role of the Opposition.”
He said the Congress party is presently without a party president and has not elected a leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) after the election.
“The Congress has no leader for the moment. The Congress is in no position to form the government,” he said, while charging the main Opposition for trying to create confusion amongst the people on government formation.
