Heavy rains have once again highlighted the persistent challenges faced by villagers in Netravali, Villian and Wadem in Sanguem, when the Valshem bridge, a critical link to Sanguem town, got submerged twice on Thursday.
The bridge got submerged in the afternoon and evening due to the overflowing river following continuous rainfall in Sanguem taluka since Wednesday night, leaving villagers stranded on both sides of the bridge.
This recurring issue stems from the bridge's low height and lack of proper side barriers, making it susceptible to get submerged at least twice every monsoon season.
Despite years of persistent demands, pleas by villagers for a new and more robust bridge in the area have yet to be addressed, leaving them vulnerable to the disruptions caused by monsoons.
