Environment Minister Nilesh Cabral on Saturday made a fervent plea to the citizens to cooperate with the government to protect and save the environment.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the felicitation programme of the Madgaon School Complex Cooperative Credit Society at the Ravindra Bhavan, Margao, on Saturday, Cabral urged the people to join hands with the government to protect the environment.
He mentioned how the plastic waste, especially single-use plastic, which is thrown out by the people, has caused havoc in the environment, including the water bodies.
In his brief address, Chairman of the Society Kisan Phadte said the credit society of the teaching and non-teaching staff members of schools have come a long way since its inception. He said the credit society is one society in the state wherein the Board of Directors has been elected unopposed since the last 23 years. He said the society will soon open its branch in Canacona.
In his report, Society Secretary Babaji Sawant said the credit society has deposits to the tune of Rs 25 crore and has advanced Rs 25 crore loans.
Sawant pointed out that the society has put in a good performance over the last one year since the office was shifted to a new and spacious office in the Osia commercial complex.
Former South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar also spoke.
