The St Francis Xavier Chapel at Madel was inaugurated at the hands of Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai in the presence of Parish Priest of Holy Spirit Church, Fr Amandio Valadares, priests, nuns and the residents of Madel.
The inauguration was followed by a Eucharistic celebration at the new chapel.
Speaking to the media after inaugurating the chapel, the Fatorda MLA said the chapel was a dream come true for the residents of Madel, who had knocked the doors of the district authorities around two decades ago.
The Fatorda MLA pointed out that the chapel was one project which has seen light of the day after he entered the ministry. “It was only when I joined the government that the chapel project moved in top gear. The land was allocated for the religious structure only after I joined the government and the work commencing in 2018,” he said.
Complimenting the people of Madel for volunteering to relocate the St Francis Xavier Chapel from the Old market-KTC road to a new location, Sardesai said the chapel only signifies development with the consent of the people and the government coming together to usher in development. “People from other parts of Fatorda and the rest of Goa should take a cue and support the developmental activities,” he added.
He also thanked the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation for completing the work within the scheduled time, adding that the chapel shifting has taken place because of the proactive support extended by the minority community.
President of the chapel committee Osvie Costa thanked the Fatorda MLA as well as the incumbent Parish Priest Amandio Valladares, ex-Parish Priest Fr Avinash Rebelo and the people for the successful relocation of the Chapel.
