Helper dies of burns in steel unit at Cuncolim

MARGAO

A 29-year-old helper from Bihar Pramod Kumar, working in Sharda Ispat Ltd at the Cuncolim industrial estate, was killed after the molten metal fell on him and the plant operator.

While Pramod Kumar has succumbed to his injuries, the operator, also from Bihar, is convalescing at the Goa Medical College and Hosptial, Bambolim.

Cuncolim police informed that the duo were working in the factory when the molten metal fell on them, sustaining severe burn injuries. While the helper succumbed to his injuries on Monday, the operator is undergoing treatment.

The Cuncolim police has sent a report to the Inspector of Factories and Boilers, who have carried out inspection of the factory. The police said further action against the factory management will depend on the complaint, if any, lodged by the Inspector of Factories and Boilers.

This is not the first time that workers at the steel units have been killed in similar incidents at the Cuncolim industrial estate, once again raising questions on the safety of the employees.
