Ex-Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and ex-Maharashtra CM Prithviraj Chavan on Thursday said that there was a very high chance of the Goa Assembly elections and Lok Sabha elections happening simultaneously.
When asked whether he thought the Congress would win the by-polls in Shiroda and Mandrem, Chavan asked, "Where is the question of by-polls if the Assembly elections and the Lok Sabha elections take place at the same time?"
Meanwhile, Chavan expressed absolute certainty that the BJP would not come to power again after their performance in the last five years.
Speaking to media persons at the Institute Menezes Braganza after the felicitation programme organised for ex-Goa CM Pratapsingh Rane, Chavan said that the BJP government hadn't been able to fulfill any of its 2014 election promises.
"The farmers are upset, GST has created problems, people are not getting jobs. People have lost their faith and trust in the government," he said, adding, "Neither Modi nor the BJP government will stay."
Chavan also said that reports of the Center for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE) that had come in a year after demonetisation showed that lakhs of people had lost their jobs on account of demonetisation. "Who will take responsibility for this?" he asked.
Meanwhile, Chavan also praised Rane saying that if politicians like Rane were at the helm of affairs, then today, Goa's environment would still be intact and wouldn't be sold to land sharks. Chavan also enumerated the major achievements of Rane pointing out that the Pope had visited the state in 1986 during Rane's term as Chief Minster. Chavan also lauded Rane's wife for standing by him all these years.
