Putting an end to speculations and divisions over local leadership, the Congress High Command reaffirmed its confidence in Girish Chodankar as president of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.
However in a significant decision, senior party leader Aleixio Sequeira has been appointed working president of the GPCC, Digambar Kamat has been appointed as Congress Legislative Party leader, while chairpersons and convenors have been appointed to five committees ahead of the Assembly elections in the State.
Announcing these decisions in a press note on Monday, AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal stated that the five committees formed are the election coordination committee, campaign committee, finance committee, manifesto committee and publicity committee.
Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro is appointed chairperson of the election coordination committee, while M K Sheikh has been appointed as convenor.
Curtorim MLA Reginaldo Lourenco has been appointed chairperson and Sangita Parab is the co-chairperson of the campaign committee.
South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has been appointed as chairperson of the finance committee, while Dr Pramod Salgaonkar is the co-chairperson.
Ramakant Khalap has been appointed chairperson and Elvis Gomes as co-chairperson of the manifesto committee, while Chandrakant Chodankar is the chairperson and Martha Saldhana is the co-chairperson of the publicity committee.
GPCC President Girish Chodankar thanked AICC President Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, General Secretary Venugopal and Goa Desk incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao for the various appointments.
“I am thankful to Congress President Sonia Gandhi for continuing with her trust on me to continue as president of Goa Pradesh Congress Committee,” Chodankar said.
"I thank all the Congress functionaries and the people of Goa who always expressed their views in the interest of Goa and Congress Party. Their valuable inputs by way of constructive suggestions as well as criticism helped me to learn and take corrective actions to make my party stronger,” said Chodankar.
