The Bombay High Court at Goa has ordered the immediate sealing of a hotel in Calangute that was allegedly operating without any occupancy certificate from the Calangute Panchayat and despite a standing demolition order for being illegal.
Hearing a miscellaneous application filed by the panchayat, the High Court directed the Calangute Police to assist in the process of sealing of the resort.
“We, therefore, direct Respondent Nos. 2 and 4 to immediately seal the said premises. The Police Inspector of Calangute Police Station should provide the necessary assistance. Report shall be furnished to this Court on 2 January 2023,” the High Court bench of Justices Bharat Deshpande and Valmiki Menezes, ruled.
The Calangute Panchayat had told the court that “the activities in the said premises are going on specifically during night time which include commercial activities.”
“The panchayat has already issued the demolition order as the entire structure in the said premises is found to be illegal and without any occupancy certificate,” the panchayat told the court.
A petition was filed in the High Court earlier alleging that the panchayat was failing to act against the allegedly illegal hotel that was operating without any permissions and in blatant violation of law.
