A Division Bench of Justice Valmiki Menezes and Justice Amit Jamsandekar, however, made it clear that any appointments made will be subject to the final outcome of the petition.
The court was hearing a writ petition filed by the KTC Drivers and Allied Employees Association challenging the amendment.
Concern over promotions
The petitioners argued that the change would reduce promotion opportunities for existing staff, especially with 16 posts currently vacant. They also claimed it could negatively affect the finances of the state-run transport corporation.
Seeking interim relief, the association asked the court to stay the amendment and stop the recruitment process started under the new rules.
After hearing both sides, the Bench said it was not inclined to grant a stay at this stage, noting that doing so would amount to granting final relief in the case.
The court, however, directed that any recruitment made under the amended rules”allowing 25 per cent direct recruitment”will remain subject to the final decision of the petition.
It also ordered that selected candidates must be informed about the ongoing case.
The matter has been posted for further hearing on June 24.
