High tension wire snaps, Benaulim plunges into darkness

Benaulim village was once again in the news on Monday night over the power failures “ this time after the village witnessed a blackout after a high tension wire of the Benaulim feeder snapped on Monday evening.

The village had hit the headlines in the recent past for the frequent power failures at nights, plunging the coastal village into darkness time and again over the last few months.

Incidentally, when The Goan called up the Assistant Engineer Kudalkar to shed light on the blackout in the village Monday evening, he feigned ignorance, promising to find out the situation in the village. He later got back saying that a high tension wire had snapped in the village and power personnel were on the job to restore the power supply at the earliest.

Local residents, however, expressed their shock and surprise that while the government has till date not deputed Margao Division Assistant Engineer Carlos Fernandes, a native of Benaulim, to take charge of the Benaulim sub-station in a bid to ensure a turn-around in the power scenario.

"Benaulim village has been the worst hit on the power supply front. Blackouts is literally the order of the day than an exception," complained a power consumer from the village, who recalled how the villagers had to miss out watching on TV the recently held ISL football matches involving FC Goa.
