MARGAO
History seemed to have been repeated in the Margao Municipal Council as the Margao Civic Alliance (MCA) forged by Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat is all, but over.
After Kamat quit the Congress and embraced the BJP on Thursday, the Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai has got his Councillors to propose Independent candidate Ganashyam Shirodkar vying for the MMC Chairperson’s post, suggesting that the alliance formed by the two MLAs on the eve of the 2021 Municipal polls is down in the dumps.
A similar situation had come to stare at the MCA after the Goa Forward Chief Vijai Sardesai propped up the Manohar Parrikar-led BJP government in 2017 after the Assembly polls.
Sardesai’s support to late Manohar Parrikar had sounded death knell for the MCA, but the two MLAs revived the alliance on the eve of the 2021 Municipal polls, amidst criticism that the MCA is nothing, but a marriage of convenience between the two MLAs to protect their interests in Fatorda and Margao.
