BICHOLIM
Heavy rain persisted from Saturday night through Sunday afternoon, leading to the inundation of Par River, Bicholim River, Valvanti River, and other rivers and drains across the taluka. Life was disrupted as several rivers exceeded their danger levels in certain areas. Traffic was significantly affected in many places due to waterlogging on roads.
In Pilgaon, Navelim, and Bhatwadi, some houses were flooded, causing panic among residents. The Emergency Control Room of the Bicholim Fire Brigade and the Water Resources Department (WRD) are closely monitoring the situation.
To prevent flooding in the market areas, the WRD has activated all pumps since morning, diverting excess water into the Valvanti River through the canal.
Due to overflowing rivers, tributaries, and streams, road flooding was reported in Mulgaon, Sanquelim, Navelim, Pilgaon, and Nanoda areas. The fire brigade is actively engaged in relief operations, clearing obstacles caused by collapses in many places amid rainfall.
Reports indicated that houses in Sal were flooded due to rising drain water levels. CM Pramod Sawant, while reviewing the situation, instructed the Collector and taluka-level officials to remain vigilant and ensure immediate relief efforts through the emergency control room.
