
CANACONA
As heavy rains battered Canacona, flooding has isolated residents of Kudewada (Gaondongrim) from the mainland. In Mokbhardwada, a family evacuated their water-logged house as the water levels in all three major rivers of the taluka surged above the danger mark on Sunday.
Residents of Kudewada in Gaondongrim village found themselves cut off as flooding submerged the road to the nearest ward of Indrawada for about 150 metres. The floodwater surged over the culvert bridge, making travel in and out of Kudewada impossible throughout Sunday. The incessant rains also washed out many prepared paddy fields in Gaondongrim and Khotiga areas.
In Shristhal village, floodwater entered a house in Mokhardwada, prompting the family to evacuate to a neighbouring residence as the Talpona river overflowed into residential areas.
Cancona Fire Services remained active, responding to a house fire at Agas-Maxem near Gopal Krishna Temple late Saturday night. They managed to save property worth Rs 90,000, though damages amounted to Rs 35,000.
Early Sunday morning, fire personnel cleared a fallen coconut tree on the Canacona–Agonda road at Devabhaga. They later removed another coconut tree that had fallen onto a house near Dr. Dhilon Dessai’s residence in Palolem, causing losses exceeding Rs 50,000.
At Zamblimoll in Shristhal, a jungle tree fell on a house, resulting in Rs 5,000 in damages. Near the Government School Ground in Gaondongrim, a mango tree fell on the road, causing a temporary obstruction.
In Galiem-Poinguinim, a mango tree damaged the house of Umesh Murlidhar Kamat, but timely intervention by fire personnel prevented further losses, saving property worth over Rs 1.20 lakhs.
Fire services also responded to Khola Panchayat, where a roof sheet had blown off and partly blocked an internal road, which they cleared using ropes.
Across Polem, fire personnel cleared a jungle tree that had fallen on an electricity line, and another tree on NH66 near the petrol pump in Canacona.
They also removed a fallen coconut tree from the house of Poinguinim VP Deputy Sarpanch Sunil Paingankar.
At Mokhardawada, water entered the house of Varad Haldankar, prompting the family to evacuate to safety in a nearby house with the assistance of fire services personnel.
