The State Government's Health department has placed Dr Anil Rane, a senior surgeon of Hospicio District Hospital at Margao, under suspension for serious malpractices including submitting incorrect medical certificates.

Rane's conduct came under cloud after the Commandant of the 3rd IRB (Indian Reserve Battalion) complained to the Directorate of Health Services that Dr Rane was issuing medical certificates (sickness) on flimsy grounds to various police personnel attached to the IRB in order to help them avoid important and emergency duties.
Further, Dr Rane has also been accused of issuing similar ‘incorrect' medical certificates to foreign nationals to help them secure an extended stay in India.
The Health Department has also reported the matter to the vigilance department to further probe the doctor.
