Margao Municipal Council Chief Officer Sidhivinayak Naik has knocked the doors of the South Goa District Magistrate to issue necessary directions to the owner to take care of the retaining wall, which has been crumbling near the Hospicio hospital.

With a portion of the retaining wall crumbling for the second time in recent times, the Chief Officer has said his office had no option but to knock on the doors of the District Magistrate to issue necessary directions.

“The main road passing by the retaining road is an entrance road to the city and the busiest one in the city. Fortunately, no untoward incident happened when the wall crumbled for the second time, but the debris had strewn all over the place before the MMC had swung into action to clear the road,” Naik said.

Saying that remaining portion of the wall has been standing precariously at the site, he said his office is waiting for the DM to issue necessary directions to the owner, taking into account the amount of vehicular traffic passing on the adjoining road and the nearby school.

To a question, he said the MMC has identified over a dozen weak structures dotting across the city with the sole aim of asking the owners to either pull them down or strengthen them with reinforcements.

“The MMC had also asked the owners to get structural stability test of the structures to ensure these don’t pose any risk and danger to the immediate neighbourhood,” he added
