With around 5-8 suspected dengue patients admitted to the Hospicio on an average per day and the hospital facing severe bed crunch, the Directorate of Health Services has sent an SOS to the government to explore the possibility of availing the Margao ESI hospital facilities to meet the crisis-like situation.
That’s not all. Hospicio Medical Superintended Dr Ira Almeida has also put in place an emergency plan to avail the TB hospital atop the Monte Hill to accommodate patients with chronic cases and use the Hospicio space for dengue patients. Hospicio officials have already approached the authorities at health centres in Curtorim and Navelim seeking admission of patients afflicted with diseases other than dengue, as part of the programme to reserve bed space at the Hospicio.
‘The Goan’ understands that Hospicio medical Superintendent Dr Ira Almeida has already dashed off a letter to the Directorate of Health Services to avail the Margao ESI hospital ward infrastructure to house the patients, based on which Health Director Dr Jose D’Sa is believed to have written a letter to the government via the Public Health Department to consider the suggestion.
Sources in the know informed that the Hospicio Medical Superintendent has also been told by the higher ups to correspond with the ESI hospital in a bid to explore the possibility of using the hospital’s infrastructure to house Hospicio patients.
