Hours after Congress MLA quits, TMC flags ‘fly high’ in Curtorim

MARGAO
Hours after the three-time MLA Reginaldo Lourenco quit the Congress, Trinamool Congress flags and banners surfaced in Curtorim all along the roads in the constituency since midnight.

In fact, Curtorkars woke up on Wednesday morning to find most of the roads playing host to TMC flags and banners with photos of former MLA Reginaldo Lourenco with party supremo Mamata Didi.

By noon, the Curtorim village panchayat headed by Sarpanch Milagres Rodrigues was on the job to clear all the TMC flags and banners from the poles and road side structures. In fact, the panchayat store room has become a makeshift storage for the seized flags and banners.

Sarpanch Milagres Rodrigues pointed out there’s no politics behind the panchayat action against the TMC flags and banners. In fact, he said the panchayat will crack a whip against flags and banners of all political parties put up in the village without permission of the local panchayat body.

“The TMC flags and banners have been removed and pulled down by the panchayat since no prior permission was obtained by the political party to put up the propaganda items. We will have no objection if the political parties obtain prior permission from the panchayat before putting up flags and banners in the jurisdiction of the village,” he said.

In fact, the sarpanch pointed out that the Curtorim panchayat will appeal to all the political parties and their candidates to obtain the panchayat permission after paying the prescribed fees.

“As far as the banners of TMC is concerned, they can collect the flags and banners from the panchayat after paying the fees. If not, the panchayat will dispose of the seized items after a week,” he said.
