The Goa legislative assembly on Tuesday cleared an amendment to the Goa Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Bill, which now makes it mandatory to pay either an annual tax or a one-time life tax on ‘construction equipment vehicles’ at the time of their purchase and registration, equivalent to one per cent of the vehicle’s cost.
The Bill makes a provision for payment of 1% of the cost of the vehicle as annual tax or 9% of the cost of the vehicle as one-time tax at the time of registration for ‘Construction Equipment Vehicles’ as defined under rule 2 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989.
The Bill replaces an ordinance the government had promulgated earlier this year.
