Hundreds of residents gathered at Tilak Maidan on Thursday morning before marching in a disciplined rally to the Vasco police station, demanding the immediate arrest of Gautam Khattar over his controversial and provocative statements against St Francis Xavier.

Raising slogans and holding placards, the protestors expressed strong dissatisfaction over the pace of action and questioned the intent behind the arrest of his brother Madhav Khattar.

The demonstration saw participation from local residents, community members and leaders, all united in their demand that Gautam Khattar be taken into custody without delay. Protestors claimed that the arrest of Madhav Khattar was a “mere eyewash” and alleged that it was an attempt to deflect attention from the main culprit. They insisted that the authorities must act decisively to maintain public confidence in the investigation.

The protestors clearly stated that they would not accept partial action. They demanded that all organisers associated with the event in question be arrested if Gautam Khattar is not apprehended at the earliest and be kept in custody till Gautam Khattar is tracked. The protestors maintained that accountability must extend beyond symbolic arrests and include all those responsible.

Superintendent of Police Gurudas Kadam told the protestors that the case has now been transferred to the Crime Branch for further investigation, and Vasco police are currently assisting in the process.

He assured that the probe is underway and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings.

The gathering remained largely peaceful, with police personnel deployed along the route to ensure order during the march. However, the intensity of the slogans and the size of the crowd indicated growing public pressure on the authorities to act swiftly.

The protestors warned that they would intensify their agitation if their demands are not met in the coming days, signalling that the issue is far from over.
