There was an unusual large crowd at the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim as job seekers made a beeline to the Dean’s office on Friday just two days after a recruitment drive was announced to hire over a thousand staff, including 600 nurses and several other technical and para-medic positions.
A serpentine queue moved at snail’s pace through the day outside the office of the Dean -- the only designated place from where job seekers could get hold of the ‘prescribed’ application forms.
Since the forms had the stamp of the GMC, it is also not possible to photocopy them either, and could only be got from a counter at the Dean’s office on payment of Rs 50.
Applicants were allowed to buy up to 10 forms per person, but most chose to come personally. Even though people were queuing up in hundreds for the forms, the GMC had made provision for only a single queue.
While many of applicants expressed their frustration, over the long hours of wait to get the coveted form some others were resigned to their fate and quietly bore the inconvenience.
Two job seekers who traveled all the way from Canacona to get the forms told The Goan that they took leave to travel to the GMC.
“We had no choice, since the forms are available only here. It takes us three hours to travel one way,” they said.
What’s more, since they had no option but to come in the second half of the day, and got the forms only at 5:30 pm, there was no time to fill them up and submit their applications. So, they said, they will have to take another half-day leave on another day and travel back to the GMC to submit the filled-up forms.
