NGT forms team to check violation

The National Green Tribunal has constituted a committee consisting of members of the Goa State Pollution Control Board, the Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority and the Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority to inspect whether the contractor building the Zuari bridge had violated the terms and conditions of its environmental clearance.   

The Federation of Rainbow Warriors, an NGO has alleged that the contractor Dilip Buildcon Ltd was dumping construction debris in CRZ areas, that contractor has not provided a Mangrove Conservation and Management Plan prior to commencement of work at the site, and that there is a failure to monitor the Ambient Air Quality, noise level and the ground and surface water as was required to be done throughout the construction phase and to be prominently displayed at the site. 

The Federation of Rainbow Warriors has also alleged that construction is being carried out by reclaiming CRZ-I areas and that there is indiscriminate felling of mangroves in order to carry out ancillary activities which are in violation
