Hydroponic weed worth Rs 18 lakh seized in Mapusa, 1 held

MAPUSA  

Mapusa police arrested a 22-year-old man on charges of possessing hydroponic weed worth about Rs 18 lakh, following a narcotics raid at the new inter-state Kadamba bus station in Mapusa.  

The accused, Leonard Deva, a native of Andhra Pradesh but residing in Guirim, was allegedly caught red-handed with 180 grams of the suspected hydroponic weed. The drugs and Rs 200 in cash were seized during the panchanama.  

The police carried out the raid on Sunday between 9.45 pm and 11.30 pm, after receiving information from reliable sources that drugs were to be transacted at the new Kadamba bus station in Mapusa.  

The police registered a case against the accused and arrested him. He was later remanded to nine days in police custody by a Mapusa court.  

Mapusa police are conducting investigations under the guidance of Police Inspector Nikhil Palekar.
