“If there was one reason for me to quit as defence minister and come to Goa, it was only to put the Congressmen in place. All these years, Congress leaders have only looted Goa for their selfish interest,” Parrikar said.
The chief minister was speaking at a function in Mapusa on occasion of the Mapusa Merchants’ Association’s founder’s day celebration.
Parrikar said he had accepted the challenge to quit the central ministry to prevent the administration from going into wrong hands.
“If I had not accepted the challenge to quit Delhi and get involved in State politics, Goa would have gone into the hands of power-hungry and corrupt leaders,” he said.
He said the Congress-led central government had tried all the tricks in the book to hold him back for almost two years when he took over as the chief minister of the State in 2012.
“State Congress leaders in league with the crafty central leaders tried to make life difficult for me in Goa for at least two-and-half years before BJP government came to power at the Centre in 2014,” Parrikar said.
He further said BJP was the only party that had the capacity to lead Goa on the path of progress.
“Last time I faced a problem because of mining. On one side, there was problem of money and on the other there were number of court cases to tackle,” he said.
He said this time money won’t be a problem for the development of Goa and he would do all within his means to take the State to greater heights.
