Cuncolim police have registered an FIR against unknown persons for allegedly causing a loss of Rs 5 lakh to the government through illegal extraction of minor minerals at Naqueri. Machinery used in the illegal activity has also been attached as part of the investigation. Cuncolim police station in-charge PI Diego Gracias said the action followed a complaint lodged by officials of the Mines and Geology Department. A department team had found that illegal laterite stone quarrying was being carried out on the land. Police said the FIR had been registered against unknown persons and an investigation was underway to identify those involved.
