While cloudy sky conditions are likely to prevail over Goa, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted light rain with lightning at isolated places in the State during the weekend, which is further expected to continue for a few more days next week.
“With the possible strengthening of “trough” (change in pattern of winds) at around 1 and 1.5 km height over Goa and also by moisture inflow at 5-6 km of height, light rain/thundershower at isolated places are expected over North and South Goa from March 20 onwards,” said Rahul Mohan, senior scientist at the IMD.
The maximum and minimum temperature is also expected to rise by one-degree centigrade from Saturday onwards.
The State is expected to experience a partly cloudy sky while the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 34 degree centigrade and 25 degree centigrade respectively in the next 48 hours.
The IMD bulletin said partly cloudy sky conditions are very likely to continue over the State due to a circulation over central Maharashtra and a trough at 1.5 km height from Karnataka to Madhya Pradesh and also because of moisture in the mid-troposphere.
“Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are likely at isolated places over both the districts on March 20 and 21,” the senior scientist said.
The IMD has further mentioned that the trough may persist for three to four more days and the activity of light rain/thundershowers may continue for a few days in the next week.
Meanwhile, the maximum and minimum temperature recorded in Panaji was 33.2 and 25.2 degrees centigrade on Wednesday, while the humidity was 92 per cent.
