Freedom fighter and educationist Fati Yeshwant Prabhugaonkar (87) passed away after a prolonged illness early Wednesday morning.
Popularly known as Fati master, Prabhugaonkar passed away in Margao and was cremated at the crematorium in Poinguinim-Canacona on Wednesday afternoon.
According to sources, Prabhugaonkar, who was residing a Margao, was not keeping well for the last few months and had been hospitalised at Margao.
Canacona Mamlatdar Vimod Dalal and some government officials visited the residence and paid floral tributes to the departed freedom fighter.
Fatimaster, who is known to have participated in the freedom struggle on June 18, 1955, at Mapusa, had studied at Hindu High School at Karwar.
He was the longest-serving headmaster of Shri Shradanand High School, Poinguinim from 1967 to 1995. He had also served as the Chairman of Shradanand Dnyanprasarak Mandal, management of Shradanand Vidyalaya. He is survived by his wife and a son.
