Aldona MLA Carlos Ferreira has demanded the immediate arrest of Police Inspector Vikas Deykar and Ranjini Palyekar, booked in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a minor girl, questioning CM Pramod Sawant’s failure to order their arrest.
Expressing shock over the alleged offence inside a police station, Ferreira questioned whether Deykar was being shielded by senior police officials or influential politicians. “The audacity of the inspector, allegedly committing the crime inside a police station, is shocking. I am told that he ensured the CCTV cameras were blocked, yet no action has been taken against him. Is he well-connected or a blue-eyed boy in the police force?” he asked.
Ferreira alleged that influential people were protecting the accused. He questioned the BJP Mahila Mandal’s silence and urged Sawant and Director General of Police Alok Kumar to act immediately.
Citing the 2013 Tarun Tejpal case, he said the government had registered an FIR suo motu and arrested the journalist before the victim arrived in Goa to lodge her complaint.
He said suspension was inadequate, as the accused could influence the investigation, intimidate witnesses and pressurise subordinates. He also criticised the BJP over women’s safety.
