Even as flooding of roads at the Gogol junction, old market Chapel area, stretch from KTC bus stand to Old market circle disrupted traffic and threw life out of gear, the Margao Municipal Council has issued work order for drain desilting work to the tune of over Rs seven lakhs in all the wards.
Motorists at the Gogol junction bore the brunt of the clogged drains as overflowing water triggered traffic jams, with water entering right at the doorsteps of shops and establishments.
Flooding was witnessed at the Old market chapel, disrupting normal life in the area, prompting the authorities to deploy workers to clear the cross drain.
The stretch of road from the KTC bus stand to old Market circle was also affected by flooding, especially near the St Francis Xavier Chapel.
While TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai launched nullah desilting works in his Fatorda constituency as water logging was witnessed in many parts, MMC officials said they have issued work order to a contractor to take up drain desilting work at a cost of over Rs seven lakh.
