As the summer season approaches, the king of fruits has arrived at the Panaji market, but with soaring prices that are leaving a dent in the wallets of common people. Despite the anticipation for the beloved fruit, the steep prices are making it more of a luxury item than an affordable treat.
The Mankurad variety, known for its exquisite taste, has seen a drop in price from Rs 7000 to Rs 4000 per dozen. However, even with this reduction, it remains beyond the reach of many consumers. The Pyare variety is priced at Rs 1000 per dozen, while the renowned Alphonso is sold for Rs 2000 per dozen, depending on its size.
"The prices are not set by us; these mangoes come from the farm at these rates, and there's nothing we can do about it," shared a vendor at Panaji Market, highlighting the market's reliance on farm prices.
