Torrential rain continued to wreak havoc in the State on Sunday even as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated that the intensity of the rain is expected to be reduced in days ahead as the depression has weakened and was moving away from Goa.
However, the wet weather is expected to continue for some time, as the State is expected to get light to moderate rainfall for next six days.
Several complaints of uprooting of trees, minor landslides and inundation of low-lying areas continued to be reported from different parts of the State.
A landslide at Dhargalim disrupted traffic on the national highway while a Delhi family of five had a miraculous escape when a huge mango tree came crashing down on their moving car in Siolim.
Several roads in the capital city of Panaji were inundated with ankle deep water. Flooding in low-lying areas were also reported from other areas in the State.
The high speed wind also brought down electricity poles and snapped power lines in some areas.
There were also complaints of long duration power cuts in some parts of the State, especially in Bardez.
The State received over two inches of rain on Sunday which is a record in the first day of October.
Almost all rain gauge stations in the State recorded over 50 mm of rain in the last 24 hours.
The trend shows that North Goa received more rainfall in the late September surge compared to the South.
The weather bureau said that the intensity or rain is expected to reduce due to dissipation of the low pressure system.
