SANGUEM
Due to incessant rains, the lone access to Kazugotto village in Sanguem taluka was washed away on September 30, causing a great deal of hardship for the villagers residing in this hilly area.
The village, which is situated on the hilltop and inhabited by over 106 villagers, has been completely cut off from nearby Tiskond and other villages.
The villagers were disturbed by the sudden collapse of the culvert as the children had left for school in the morning, and there was no other alternate road access for them to return home.
Immediately after the incident, local MLA Subhash Phal Desai rushed to the village and assured to undertake the repair work of the damaged culvert at the earliest.
Incidentally, a stretch of about seven kilometers of road to the village has remained without being blacktopped for generations, primarily due to a lack of NoC from the forest department and the local landowners.
Phaldessai informed that in the year 2012 when he was the MLA of Sanguem, he got the road leading to Kazugotto village leveled at his own cost using heavy machinery and even moved the file for blacktopping the mud road. However, the project work was halted because of the lack of NoC from the forest department and the local landowners.
Phaldessai also called the PWD engineers to the site and urged them to undertake the repair works of the damaged portion of the culvert at the earliest.
