Consistent downpour evenly across all regions in Goa continued to keep authorities on their toes even as water levels in the Bicholim and Valvanti rivers rose above the danger mark forcing WRD officials to pump out water from the two basins.
The meteorological department meanwhile has predicted heavy rainfall at most places in Goa for the next five days.
For the 24-hours since midnight on Friday-Saturday, 37 mm of rainfall was recorded in the State, the Met office said and the seasonal total has crossed the 130 inches mark, nearly 36 inches more than the total rainfall last year.
Reports of a landslide along the Chorla ghat also trickled in late Saturday evening affecting the traffic flow on the crucial Belgaum-Goa route which services transportation of daily supplies of vegetables and other commodities.
Meanwhile, Opposition Leader Digambar Kamat has expressed concern over the rising levels in the Bicholim and Sanquelim rivers.
“With heavy rains in Goa & rise in water level in Sakhalim, Bicholim rivers & with Tillari dam water released gradually, I appeal to all to be alert & at safe locations. I am sure @goacm has put government machinery in active mode. My prayers for safety of all,” Kamat posted on social media site Twitter.
