MARGAO
Industries Minister Mauvin Godinho said he has no idea whether there’s any government scheme in place mandating the industries department to create trade zones in the industrial estates across the state to rehabilitate the illegal scrapyards.
The Industries Minister, however, asserted that he would not hesitate to include the trade zones in the proposed industrial policy for Goa if the zones would help rehabilitate the scrapyards from the towns and villages.
When The Goan called up the Industries Minister to shed light on the implementation of the 2010 scheme, Mauvin said he has no idea about it, promising to find out about the status of the trade zones.
“Let me first study what the 2010 scheme is all about and whether it had mooted setting up of the trade zones and why these have not yet seen the light of day. I have doubts whether people from a particular locality will accept scrapyards in their backyard. But if the scheme holds the promise to end the issue of scrapyards, I will not hesitate to include the proposal in the proposed industrial policy for Goa”, he told The Goan.
