Congress candidate for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat Captain Viriato Fernandes has said he has filed his nomination papers for the South Goa Lok Sabha seat in the name of the people of Goa, be it the unemployed youth, farmers, fishermen, mining dependents, and the women of Goa seeking justice  and the leaders and people of the INDIA Alliance partners.

After submitting his nomination papers to Returning Officer, Asvin Chandru, accompanied by leaders of the Congress party and INDIA Alliance, Captain Viriato told the media that the people of Goa have given the verdict, as he predicted a tsunami of voters on May 7 and creation of history on June 4.

Pointing out that the format in the affidavit filed before the Returning Officer pertaining to assets was found inadequate to mention all his assets, Viriato thundered that the people of Goa, comprising of the unemployed youth, fishermen, truck drivers, taxi and motorcycle pilots constitute his assets, as he vowed to fight for the people of Goa in his lifetime.

Captain Virato filed his nomination papers in the presence of Congress leaders GPCC Chief Amit Patkar, Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao, INDIA Alliance leaders Goa Forward Chief MLA Vijai Sardesai and Aam Aadmi Party MLA Venzy Viegas.

After coming out of the office of the Returning Officer, the Congress candidate demanded to know why is Prime Minister Narendra Modi coming to South Goa for the election campaign, whether to apologize for the failure to restart mining and provide jobs to the unemployed or to give yet more promises to the beleaguered people of Goa.

“Former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar had claimed credit for banning mining in the state. Come every election, and we find the BJP leaders assuring resumption of mining operations. No one has bothered to understands the hardships faced by the mining dependents,” Viriato said.

When a scribe sought to know whether he would get mining restarted in the state, Viriato said his government will take a call on the resumption of mining activities.
