Industrial unit faces allegations of land cutting at Cuncolim

MARGAO

The Cuncolim Industrial estate is once again back in the news, this time over a illegal land cutting allegedly by an industrial unit.

Deputy Collector South-1, Naresh Gaude has directed the industrial unit to stop the illegal land cutting and filling.

The unit was told to forthwith to show cause as to why action deemed fit should not be initiated against it.

The Deputy Collector has now directed to remain present in the office of the Town Planner, Town and Country Planning Department, Margao either personally or through any authorized pleader with all necessary permissions/ approvals/licenses within 24 hours from the date of receipt of this notice, failing which, a warning was issued that a FIR will be filed against the unit.

The show cause cum stop work order was issued after site inspection by the flying squad revealed that the unit has carried out illegal land cutting and filling in Cuncolim.

The flying squad further pointed out that no board was displayed at the site displaying the permission from Town and Country Planning Department nor any document/permission were made available at the site and as such prima facie as it attracts Section 17(A) of TCP ACT of 1974 which is a cognizable offence.

The flying squad had rushed to the site following a complaint that land cutting is going on in the area without any valid permissions from any authority.

The Cuncolim police has been told to serve the show cause notice immediately on the party with a direction to ensure that no further land cutting/filling takes place. The police have been directed to initiate necessary action against the unit if further land cutting/filling takes place at the site.

Demand for stern action

MARGAO:

Cuncolim MLA & Opposition Leader Yuri Alemao has slammed the illegal land development activity carried out by the industrial unit.

He has demanded that the authorities initiate stern action against the unit as per the law, saying the flying squad has unearthed major irregularities.

“The Cuncolim Industrial estate is hogging the limelight for the wrong reasons. First it was pollution and now the units are allegedly involved in illegal land development,” Yuri said while demanding that the concerned authorities crack a whip against the illegal land development.
