Inferno at Margao destroys fashion outlet, ATM

A major fire in Casa Dos Aliados building in the heart of the commercial capital late on Thursday night destroyed a couple of shops, including a fashion-cum-tailoring outlet, while also destroying an ATM and other items of the Margao branch of the South Indian bank.
The Fire and Emergency Services, which deployed two fire tenders, managed to bring the fire under control, in an operation that lasted for about an hour.
Sources said the Silver fashion and tailoring outlet was completely destroyed in the inferno, and is believed to have destroyed property worth several lakhs of rupees. The huge flames burnt the front portion of the building, including the advertisement boards. Owners of shops housed in the same building also rushed to the site to find out whether the fire had affected their premises, but fortunately the adjoining shops were not affected by the fire. A South Indian Bank official informed that the ATM was completely damaged in the fire. However, there was no cash inside the ATM. Three air conditioners and the front portion of the bank premises were also burnt in the raging fire.The fire brigade is ascertaining the exact cause of the fire and where exactly it originated from before spreading to the bank that is located above the fashion outlet.
