Asserting that protecting the interest of the State is of paramount importance for him, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Sunday made it clear that he will not lag behind in taking any decision that will benefit the last person in the State, irrespective of the person’s caste and creed.
Addressing the annual Akhil Gomantak Kshatriya Maratha Samaj programme at Ravindra Bhavan Margao on Sunday, Sawant said the chair he is occupying by virtue of being the state Chief Minister will never be used for his benefit or for the benefit of his community. “The chair I am occupying is not to protect my interest or the interest of my community, but to protect the interest of my State. Many people may say different things, but I want to stress today that protecting the interest of my State and its people is of paramount importance for me over all other things,” he said.
“After I took many a decisions after taking over the reigns of office, many people approached me saying that I have taken good decisions. But, I have made it a point to clarify that my decisions were not based on any extraneous considerations, but on the sole consideration of protecting the interest of the State,” he added.
Saying that politics for him meant doing social work, the chief minister said he would not hesitate to take any decision which would help the last person in the State, irrespective of his caste or creed.
Saying the time has now come up for the Kshatriya Maratha Samaj to leave behind the swords and instead make good use of knowledge to make a mark in society, the chief minister urged the community members to take inspiration from Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj not just to rule, but to work for the society and march forward.
Former Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane and many other leaders of the Kshatriya Maratha Samaj community attended the programme.
