Intermittent rains and gusty winds affect parts of Sattari Firefighters use chainsaws to clear a fallen tree in Sattari after strong winds.

Intermittent rain and strong winds in parts of Sattari taluka on Thursday led to fallen trees, power cuts and fires that damaged cashew plantations. Fire tenders from the Valpoi fire station rushed to several locations, clearing trees from roads and houses.

Fires were reported in cashew plantations across Sattari. At Bhagwada in Morlem, near a water tank, a plantation caught fire. A team led by A N Desai (LFF) brought the blaze under control. Owner Gurudatta Kamat said the loss was about Rs 20,000, but quick action prevented further damage.

Strong winds later caused a cashew tree branch to fall near Ravalnath Temple at Velus, Valpoi, blocking traffic. A team led by K C Naik (LFF) cleared the obstruction.

At Godemol in Morlem, a tree fell near the Sateri Temple. In Morlem Colony, a tree along with electric wires collapsed, creating a dangerous situation, which was quickly handled.

Emergency calls were also attended at Godemol and Kersarkar Wada, where a mango tree fell on two houses. Fire services remained busy till late evening.
