Patient care attendants working on contract basis in the Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB) at Bambolim have approached the High Court against the State government’s recruitment rules for new posts which are being advertised.
The government has put a condition of a minimum height of 157 cms for males and 152 cm height for females. Besides, SSC pass is the minimum education qualification.
These two conditions have affected the prospects of many attendants already working on contract and who are awaiting regularisation in services.
The attendants have demanded that recruitment rules be relaxed considering the special case of caretakers already working in the department for more than five years.
There are around 28 such patient attendants working on contract basis since 2013 and most of them have studied up to Std 8-9.
The government has advertised around 55 patient care attendant posts and the process of recruitment has already begun.
A physical examination of candidates has already been conducted despite assurance in the court that government will not hold any procedure until the next hearing. Also, a written test is scheduled on November 14 at the Institute of Fire and Emergency Services headquarters at Campal.
The aggrieved patient care attendants fear that the government will complete the process of recruitment before the next hearing scheduled on November 17.
Around 300 new applicants have applied for the 55 posts.
The petitioners have claimed that an educational qualification of SSC specified in the recruitment rules is unwarranted for the post.
