The Crime Branch cracked down on yet another illegal betting racket at Agassaim on Sunday when the tournament’s final match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad was held.
The sleuths arrested 11 persons for allegedly accepting bets and seized Rs 1.13 lakh along with electronic devices from their possession. The last raid on IPL betting was during the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 8.
The department stated that the investigation revealed the accused facilitated betting activities through an app link and shared it via social media platforms like Instagram and WhatsApp to attract customers.
They would then share bank details with interested parties, who would deposit money to join the betting group. The accused were soon bailed out.
