Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has directed the Public Works Department (PWD) to inspect and submit an audit report on Kala Academy after instances of leakage. The authorities came under stark criticism after Dinanath Mangeshkar auditorium began leaking during the pre-monsoon rains on two occasions. Sawant has also asked PWD to take precautionary measures before a permanent solution is put in place.
‘95% Smart City works complete’
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Monday said that about 95 per cent of the Smart City project in Panaji is complete while directing the Imagine Panaji Smart City Development Limited to expedite the remaining work.
“Almost 90-95 per cent of the Smart City project is done. The remaining works will be inspected and completed. I have directed the Smart City team to expedite the work,” Sawant said at a press conference after chairing a second review meeting on monsoon preparedness at the Secretariat.
Monsoon preparedness
In the wake of Cyclone Remal hitting Bengal and a red alert issued in Tripura and nearby areas, the CM assured that disaster management agencies are on high alert in Goa to handle natural disasters, if any.
“Our teams are working 24/7. They have successfully managed Cyclone Tauktae and floods in the past. We have 11 shelters equipped with food and water provisions to accommodate affected persons in case of emergencies,” Sawant, who also heads the State Disaster Management Authority, stated.
He also urged people to download the SACHET app, a disaster early warning platform by the National Disaster Management Authority that provides alerts at least seven days in advance.
