Bharatiya Janata Party Scheduled Tribes (ST) leader Anthony Barbosa has lodged a complaint against one Abhishek Banerjee for the derogatory post on social media directed at St Francis Xavier.

In his complaint to the Maina Curtorim police, Barbosa accused Banerjee of hurting the religious sentiments of all the devotees of St Francis Xavier. He said Banerjee used vulgar language to outrage the religious feelings of St Francis Xavier's devotees and made a statement to promote disharmony with an intention to create discrimination amongst different religious groups, thereby outraging the feelings of the Catholics in Goa.

The BJP leader appealed to the police to initiate stringent action against Banerjee in accordance with the law under sections 153, 153A, 295A, 298 and 500 of the IPC.
