In a major move to ensure transparency and fair access in railway ticket bookings, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has introduced wide-ranging reforms to strengthen its online ticketing system.

The initiative combines user-friendly technology upgrades with strict anti-fraud measures aimed at protecting genuine passengers and preventing misuse of Tatkal and Advance Reservation Period (ARP) bookings. As part of the drive, 3.03 crore fake profiles were blocked.

IRCTC carried out a large-scale crackdown on suspicious accounts during 2025, launching a major digital clean-up campaign. Under this drive, 3.03 crore suspicious user IDs were deactivated, while 4.86 crore user IDs were placed under revalidation. In addition, 3.99 lakh suspicious PNRs were reported to the National Cyber Crime Portal and 12,819 suspicious email domains were blocked.

South Western Railway (SWR) Chief PRO Dr Manjunath Kanamadi said these steps reflect a strong effort to dismantle fraudulent networks and ensure that ticket availability remains accessible to genuine users.
