Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Goa Prant, the breakaway RSS headed by rebel RSS leader Subhash Velingkar, is likely to be dissolved ahead of the results of the State Assembly elections on March 11. The formal announcement is expected to be made in the coming week.
However, Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM), which was backed by RSS Goa Prant during the assembly polls, will continue with its work.
The crucial meeting of RSS Goa Prant chaired by its Sanghachalak Subhash Velingkar was held on Sunday morning in Porvorim with over a hundred members attending the same. The five-hour long marathon meeting which concluded at about 2.30 pm, deliberated on whether RSS Goa Prant should be dissolved or whether it should continue as a separate entity.
Those who attended the meeting were Krishnaraj Sukerkar, Pravin Neswankar, Subhash Desai and Anand Shirodkar, among others. To finalise the issue, the next meeting is scheduled on March 2.
While most of the senior leaders opined that RSS Goa Prant should be dissolved as there cannot be two factions of the RSS, a section of members was also of the opinion that RSS Goa Prant should not be dissolved as their aim to discontinue grants to the minority-run English medium primary schools has not been achieved as yet.
“Having two factions of the RSS is not a right thing. So, most of those present at the meeting agreed that RSS Goa Prant should be dissolved so that everyone is relieved of their responsibilities. However few members also opined that RSS Goa Prant should not be dissolved as we are yet to achieve our goals”, said a senior leader of the RSS breakaway group.
“RSS Goa Prant was the need of the hour. If it was not formed, we would have not been able to work towards protecting our mother tongue”, he said.
RSS Goa Prant was formed after RSS ‘relieved’ Velingkar of his post as State Sanghachalak, soon after Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM) announced to float a political party to take on the BJP in the polls.
After it was formed on September 1 last year, Velingkar had said that they were not required to take any approval from the central leadership in Nagpur.
“We will not report to Nagpur at least till the elections. Conscience doesn’t need any orders. And if there are any orders against the conscience, it is not binding on Goa RSS. Let them dissociate us. Still we will function. This is not rebellion”, he had said.
