State Directorate of Education (DoE) has received 21 applications/proposals for opening new high schools in the State.
However, of these 21 applications, 19 are for opening high schools in English medium, while one each in Urdu and Marathi medium.
Interestingly, five applications have been received from Ponda, followed by four from Salcete taluka.
Speaking to The Goan, an official of the DoE informed that they are likely to consider those applications which have been received upto November 30.
“We have been receiving applications now too. But we are likely to consider November 30 as the cut-off date, which is six months prior to the beginning of the next academic year”, he said.
The DoE is expected to finalise permissions for the new high schools after April 20.
“As soon as we received applications, we asked the respective ADEIs to carry out a feasibility study on whether we actually need to have new high schools in these areas. We will take a final call on permissions after the schools declare results”, he said.
During the last five years, the DoE has granted permissions to open 26 new high schools across the State.
Interestingly, only one among these 26 schools is in Marathi medium, while all others are in English medium.
